Taking care of timber furniture with furniture oil

February 18, 2014

Because of the hard and yet forgiving nature of many timbers, it will withstand a great deal of wear and tear. Although most timbers will tolerate the heat from coffee cups and inner plates, they cannot tolerate greater temperatures from dishes heated on the stove-top or in conventional or microwave ovens. The general rule is: if something is too hot to hole, it is too hot to place on timber. However, it will also repay you a little tender loving care with furniture oil!

Timber furniture needs to be polished regularly to maintain optimum condition- polishing cleans and nourishes the wood, protects it and highlights its character.

When polishing with furniture oil, work along the grain of the timber, rub the polish in well, and buff with a soft cloth straight away, making sure you polish out all the scratches.
